We love our farm life!
Life on the farm is great!
Quiet peaceful evenings, we go out every Friday evening for dinner on the mountain at our local Hiker Hostel. Sundays we usually return to the hostel for breakfast. Lots to do this summer with the Farmers' Market, chickens, rabbits, and haying. New calves will be coming soon, and we have to get the donkeys with the cattle. Always something going on. NOTE:
Let me welcome you to Farm on Kitchen Branch. This website was developed exclusively for our interns and volunteers. We are trying to be informative, welcoming and at the same time careful, because after all we are inviting strangers into our home, and when we have several wwoofers, workaways, or Help Exchange people here, your safety is as important to us as our own.
Our world is changing, and not every intern/volunteer is traveling for the same reason. We have found through other hosts that there are those who are using these programs for nafarious personal reasons, because they are not wanted at home, or they have a drug problem, or they are running from the law, have criminal records, etc. We won't knowingly deal with that type, so our application process is ardous, and we also screen and run background checks on our applicants. We post our rules, and we stick by them, we want to be dealing with upstanding citizens who are really intent on supporting the programs we are involved in. This is a "working" vacation for the people we invite to our farm, and besides having a great time, we wish to trade knowledge with everyone who comes our way. We also want to introduce you to our area of the country, because we love it here and are proud to call ourselves Tennesseeans! | Our Farm, Kennels, and Training Center
Here at the farm, we are busy with our cattle, donkeys, chickens, rabbits, and dogs.
As the year progresses we are building our first high tunnel, and adding more free ranging chickens. It is very exciting to get back into small critters once again. Our primary crops are currently cattle, hay, apples, and blueberry's. As we are working with our local farmers market, our main vegetable garden will be 1/4 acre this year. We are currently working toward organic certification with the State of Tennessee, because we feel very strongly about protecting our land and people. Over the next year, we will be joining Tennessee Agritourism and welcoming the public to come and experience our small scale farming operations. We operate a boarding kennel and a service dog training facility on the property also. WWOOFers, Work-A-Way, and HelpX travelers are welcome, and we hope your stay with us will be so much fun that you add us to your travel itinerary on an annual basis. |
